I work with children in lots of different capacities. While working with children it’s best to be yourself because they can detect when you are being a fake and a phoney and trying to be something that you are not. They might not always tell you but they know. I happen to have children and work with children who openly tell me. When I’m not feeling myself I’m a bit quieter than usual, especially if I’m menstruating and riding through the pain. It happened to me the other day and within 5 minutes of working on a 1:1 with a…

Words to inspire: Lots of people will be shocked and saddened by the US election news but also there will be lots of people who will be extremely happy. Either way I have taken something from this story. Trump was a business man and a reality tv show character but never had a job in politics. He just had a dream which lots of people may have laughed at, because he really didn’t have the qualifications which were previously required. Well, someone made up that rule but he kind of crushed it… I’ve had lots of dreams and in the…

Words to inspire: Children often have the right idea in life in my view. Even when things are going on that might be troubling, they can still find time to enjoy themselves. I watched my lil lady in the park in Brooklyn on a hot summer’s day. She saw a fountain and was apprehensive at first and then thought, why not and just ran through it with her clothes on. The joy on her face brightened up my world at a time when there wasn’t lots of light in my heart. It really made me think. Sometimes we take life…

Words to inspire: I was watching my children shoot hoops, as our family across the ocean would call it. It was wonderful to watch. I remember when neither of them could even hold a ball that size, let alone hold it still and shoot. I watched the way both of them tried to get the ball in the net. My young man could shoot from a long range and sometimes get the ball in without even looking too hard. He knew exactly where to aim so he could do it with his eyes closed. My lil lady had to look…

Words to inspire: I spoke about being ‘too modest’ yesterday and actually in my opinion this is a real issue in the country I live in. I do not think we are good at speaking highly of ourselves until we have to sell ourselves during a job interview. I think it’s because we don’t want to come across arrogant. We lift others up quite easily but we do not lift up ourselves as well. When we reflect on the past do we count the blessings in our lives and look at how far we have come and say to ourselves…

Words to inspire: My husband is very particular and he always tells me, if we’re going to do anything we must do it well. I sometimes see him outside cleaning the streets just after the road sweepers have been. Apparently there is one particular worker that doesn’t do it properly, so he knows when that worker has been and when the other one who does it properly has been on duty. I do a lot of voluntary work and work that pays a lot less than I’m used to. However, I have learnt even in those situations we must still…

Words to inspire: Another thing we love doing as a family is fruit picking. I used to go fruit picking as a child and we would come home and make jams, puddings and sauces with the fruit we picked. When fruit picking, my lil lady would often look to me for reassurance. As she reaches out she would ask “Mummy is this one ready yet and is it the right size? She has an idea of what I like but she likes to double check. I would often respond with an explanation as to why it would be ready and…

Words to inspire: We hear a lot about open doors, windows of opportunity, seasons of prosperity etc, so many of us are constantly looking for and praying for those things. We hope and wish for those doors to open because we see that as being the fruits of our harvest. However do we think about and hope for closed doors too? Closed doors are often viewed as negative things but that isn’t always the case. A few years ago, one of my greatest fears was the potential of losing my job. I was in a role that was very different…

Words to inspire: Previously, I have spoken about moving things out of the way to clear the path ahead, however sometimes things don’t move very easily. They might not want to be moved so they try hard to remain and make it difficult for us to move them. We might think, perhaps it is a sign and those things just need to stay because there’s a purpose in it. Possibly, but when those things aren’t good for you then they might have been sent to teach you something but not to remain forever. In those cases, please learn the lesson…

Words to inspire: Have you ever felt stuck in a situation and you didn’t think you could get out of it? Well my hands are up! It’s not a blame game but I remember I got myself stuck in lots of things because I put my feet there. Sometimes I made choices that weren’t good for me and then I cried out for help when my feet were too deep. I didn’t always consciously choose to get stuck though, but the circumstances in my life led me there. However, one day I made a choice not to be there anymore….
