One of the most important things for us to do can also be one of the hardest things too – loving ourselves first! When I had this conversation with the young people I coach, I explained that once we love ourselves it’s then easier to love others freely. Some of them understood that but it was a difficult concept for some as it’s not often something that has been programmed here. I used to give my all to everyone and that was great but I now realise I did a lot of it to fill my need to be needed….

Following on from yesterday, once we get rid of self doubt, we need to act. It’s all well and good to talk about changing and start believing you can do things, but if you don’t actually take action and try things out, you will still be in the same state. I know this too well. I stop doubting myself in my head and talk a good talk but then I would find reasons not to do it straight away and I would avoid it for ages, at which point the fear and doubt resurrected. Like I did with that young…

One of the biggest killers of progression for me previously, was self-doubt. Oh my gosh, it blocked so many things. I wouldn’t even try certain things because I thought “Nah I’m not good enough.” It was deep! Yesterday evening, I was talking to a group of young people about loving themselves and believing in their ability. For some reason the majority of them felt it was a weird thing to love themselves and believe that they are great. I think it’s a cultural thing in the country we live in. We aren’t very good at celebrating ourselves. We’re far to…

It’s exciting to be back! I took some time out to reflect and now I’m refreshed and ready to deliver words that will hopefully inspire you and others in some way. Please be encouraged to comment and share too. So the word for myself this year is “Ask.” Prior to 2017 sometimes I have been too afraid to ask. I haven’t handled rejection very well previously, so for someone to say no when I have plucked up the courage to ask, did not go down well. However, I know I have missed opportunities in life due to that fear of…

Fascinations and obsessions. Well… most of us have something or other and others may have more and respond to them in a deep way. Not everyone on the Autistic spectrum have these but from my experience, many do, in one way or another. Not all of them will result in a new invention but some people just need to have something. I can be quite obsessive about underwear. I like to match what I’m wearing underneath with the colours I have on top. I know it’s very bizarre especially because only two people are likely to see it, MrJK and……

Day 24 Last day! Well I’ve gone with traditional advent calendars which have 24 days. So I’m covering the last three letters of the alphabet XYZ together. X is for: Xenial – hospitable especially to visiting strangers or foreigners. Of the relation between host and guest; friendly. Y is for: Yearn – an intense feeling of longing for something; desire. Z is for Zestful – full of energy and enthusiasm. This season is a great time to be hospitable. Many of us will be having family and friends over for meals and drinks. Some people will be those we have…

Day 23 W is for Well. There are a few different ways that ‘well’ can be used. It can be used at the start of another word like Well-being, Well-led. It comes before ‘done’ to congratulate someone. I use it a lot at the end of a sentence when I start a text or an email Hi, hope you are well. It also ends one of my favourite phrases “It is well.” The dictionary gives a few definitions: Adverb 1. in a good or satisfactory way. 2. in a thorough manner. “add the mustard and lemon juice and mix well”…

V is for value The dictionary states this: Noun 1. the regard that something is held to deserve; the importance, worth, or usefulness of something. 2. principles or standards of behaviour; one’s judgement of what is important in life. Verb 1. estimate the monetary worth of. 2. consider (someone or something) to be important or beneficial; have a high opinion of. I am not going to explore the monetary value of anything other than to say we as people are priceless. Valuing myself was something I wasn’t very good at before. I didn’t know my worth so I placed little…

Day 21 U is for unique and uniqueness One of my organisations promotes exploring our uniqueness. One of the reasons for that is because we have the vision for everyone we work with to discover themselves and embrace their uniqueness. We acknowledge that everyone is different and everyone has a unique way of learning things. We believe that we all need different resources for our unique purposes too. We facilitate the explorations by giving individuals relevant tools and coaching them, but they journey through in the way that is true to them. We do this through music, the arts and…

Day 20 T is for Time for everything. Alongside purpose I truly believe there is a time for everything and things will be made beautiful in their own time. There’s a passage in the Bible that states: “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot… …a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance…” I might not understand why things happen right now but I…
